Okay, these are softball questions, but I just love Serena’s Parisian vibe in this video. I wasn’t able to find the interview that she did after her 6-0, 6-1 first round victory on Sunday over Anna Tatishvili, (phew, talk about a femme fatale!), but here’s a recent sampling of her accent:
Incidentally, her on court interview was with Fabrice Santoro, who told her that he was nervous, himself: “This is my first on-court interview, so I’m very nervous, so I’m glad it’s with you.” Awww. Fabrice, vous me manquez!
I also like this quote from her coach (and rumored lover), Patrick Mouratoglou, on the subject: “She wants to improve in French; she wants to get better at everything.” Oh la la! (quotes via NYTimes)
Yes, I know that a tennis player speaking a language other than his or her native tongue is really no big whoop to our non-American readers out there but in the States this is quite remarkable (sadly). So add it to the list of things that make Serena remarkable! I’m sure there will be more to add in a couple weeks time.
