Roger Federer beat Potito Starace Tuesday evening in the second round of the Rome Masters. But the real news to come out of the Internazionali BNL d’Italia is: Roger got his hair cut! I mean, really – we’re talking inches here. One more centimeter and he’s in shop teacher territory. Just a bit more off the top and it’s off to the army. Or I guess in Roger’s case, the Swiss Guard.
Of course someone in the press room asked about it. Apparently he got it cut earlier in the day, before his night match. For some reason, this seems risky to me. You never know how you’ll feel after a big change like that!
Q: I can see that you have a new haircut – so you look much more mature. More a man and less an uprising boy. Does this make a difference in your behaviour.
R. Federer: Its been six hours since my haircut so Ill tell you in a week. It was more a matter of losing weight quickly so I decided to cut my hair and so I am quicker on the court.
I made a few snarky remarks about Roger’s recent Facebook post about a fly. What I meant to say was: How refreshing to have an international sports superstar sharing a moment of random reflection! Ha. How naive can I get? Of course there’s a multi-million dollar corporate tie-in. Sigh. . .at least Roger looks good:
You can watch this video and ponder Roger’s new cut. Or his encyclopedic knowledge of Potito Starace (seriously, I feel like he read Starace’s Wikipedia page before the interview.)
Personally? I usually love short hair on men and it’s not like Roger looks bad. But he has/had very special hair – the flowing waves that pour gracefully over the Nike swoosh of his headband, allowing him to gently sweep loose locks from his brow with a tanned, tapered finger.
Sigh. . .it will grow.
For the record – Fritters thinks “change is good.”
