Okay, well. I’m a bit speechless. Roger Federer showed that the grass is still its own surface, taking out Novak Djokovic in the roof 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 under the roof. Roger won this match on the strength of his serve, especially in the first set, where it felt like he couldn’t win a rally that went over three shots in length. But he kept his calm, didn’t let the second set bother him and his overall game started improving as Novak Djokovic continued to make little slips – mentally and on the grass.
It says a lot about Djokovic that even when he was struggling mightily in the fourth, I couldn’t help thinking: “He’s got Rog right where he wants him.” Things got mighty tight as Roger served for the match, and I wondered if Roger Federer was thinking the same thing.
Apparently he was thinking: “I’m about to be in my eighth Wimbledon final!”
After the match, Roger admitted: “I’m ecstatic.” Finally, we’re on the same page.
Murray vs. Tsonga next.
