Fritters snapped Roger Federer practicing/warming up with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (the Pak part of the famed Indo-Pak Express) on Sunday afternoon in Indian Wells. The Swiss No. 1 went on to win a tight second rounder vs. perpetual dangerous floater Igor Andreev: 7-5, 7-6(4). (Also today, we enjoyed watching Schiavone beat Cornet, Wawrinka edge out a returning-to-form Davydenko, and 18-year-old American Ryan Harrison score his best result in a Masters event with a straight set win over No. 22 seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. Good times!)
But back to Roger Federer. Now that I’m back home, I actually have had a chance to catch up on tennis news! This was nice to hear from Rafael Nadal (via ESPN):
“We love competition, but we understand outside competition [there] is the relationship of outside of the court,” Nadal said. “[It] doesn’t affect nothing on our performance on court. That’s the most important thing.
“At the end, we have a good connection together, and that’s why we are always open to do exhibitions or events for our foundations or anything together. I think Roger, for sure he’s a good person, but at the same time he’s a good friend of mine at this moment.
“For sure, our relationship is getting closer and closer all the time, and I think we are feeling comfortable together.”
Also nice to hear: Roger’s committed to playing Davis Cup this July, in Switzerland’s home tie vs. Portugal:
“I’m really looking forward to helping Switzerland begin the process of getting back into the World Group,” Rog said on his website.
But let’s forget the future for a while and enjoy the moment! Here’s more of Federer on Sunday – both still and moving pictures. Enjoy!
