Shirtless Tommy Robredo, cranky Dinara Safina, Coach Peter Lundgren nursing a (possible) frisbee injury – you just never know who or what you’ll run into at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Here are some random scenes from Sunday.
Safina seemed to be working on an abbreviated service motion with her coach. He’d put a couple tennis shoes in the corners of the service box as targets. She wasn’t thrilled. It was a little disconcerting to observe a former No. 1 ranked pro struggling through the same kind of drills mere mortals experience at the YMCA. but it was also kind of inspiring.
Berdych, Blake and Azarenka were practicing nearby.
Jimmy Connors was hitting around in front of a crowd on Sunday morning. He’s trying to bring back the sweater vest, I guess.
The above photo is from yesterday, showing coach Peter Lundgren playing some Frisbee. Just out of the frame, his charge Stan Wawrinka was literally face down in the grass, performing all kinds of excruciating crunches and leg raises. Yet it was Peter sporting a tape job on his right calf during Stan’s match vs. Davydenko on Sunday. . .
Gotta lay off that Frisbee. Maybe some leg lifts would help?
