Roger Federer beat Indian wild card Somdev Devvarman 6-3, 6-3 in his first match at the Dubai Duty Free Championships, his first match since losing to Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semis. He gets Marcel Granollers in the next round. He says he’s feeling rested and ready to go:
Gilles Simon may just be Roger’s most-dreaded possible quarterfinal opponent – he’s alive and kickin’ it little bird style after taking out Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 7-5 in his first match in the desert – it’s his first win over the Russian in eight tries!

“Still young!” Nole cracks me up when he plays the sage statesman – though with two Majors, he’s allowed. He gets the non-sage, non-statesman Feliciano Lopez next.
Nikolay Davydenko had a niiiiiice 6-2 6-0 win over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez in just 57 minutes. He must still be feeling good after that spa day with his wife:
