I thought last year’s flying carpet stunt was the limit, but apparently the ATP spent the past twelve months thinking of an even more precarious (looking) season opening promo for Roger and Rafa to engage in. When I first saw this, I thought “OMG! Rolled ankle!” Then I imagined a big wave sweeping them both into the Indian Ocean. Then I imagined a shark attack, with Rafa rescuing Roger with a big forehand to the shark’s nose. Then I told myself to chill out and just watch the video:
UPDATE: Here’s another via ATP. Does it look as blurry on your computer as it does on mine?
We all know how Rafa loves his water sports. Roger, however, admitted to some nerves. (Via ATP)
“It was a fantastic experience,” said World No. 1 Nadal. “For the past three years we have done a few different things, and this one was a very nice experience. It’s going to be a very exciting season for me, I think. I would love to play against Roger a few more times this year, because when we play each other it’s in the final.”
Federer added, “It was good fun. It was so different. You’re always excited and nervous to see how it will turn out. It is always nice promoting an event and an entire tour with Rafa. I am of course very excited about playing another season on tour. I’m playing some of my best tennis again. I am really enjoying it and have high goals for this year.”
I guess Roger got over his nerves. Thanks to GTT reader, Nusi, for sharing this photo!
Now onto the really exciting part – 2011!
