Hi all. Hope all of you here in the States are having a fabulous Thanksgiving weekend full of tennis and turkey sandwiches. One really crappy thing about next year’s shortened season – the WTF will no longer coincide with a lovely loooooong weekend.
I’ll enjoy it while I can.
I’m giving thanks this tennis season for a seemingly perfect set of semifinals at the World Tour Finals: Roger Federer vs. Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray vs. Rafael Nadal. Could we ask for a more perfect finale?
I’m also thankful for Nole’s sense of humor. Here he is, “poking” fun at his latest injury woes before his match vs. Roddick on Friday:
I’m thankful that top pros like Andy Murray still take the time to inspire the younger generation:
(I was just thinking about the ball kids this week, and how cool it is that pro tennis gives young’uns an unbelievable opportunity to be inspired – and sometimes harangued! – by the pros in a crucial, “front-of-house” role. It’s one of those unique little things about tennis that we fans sometimes take for granted. It’s nice that Andy Murray took a moment to appreciate these kids.)
I’m thankful that Rafa’s over the curse of the pink shirt.
Pink’s nice on him, no?
I’m also thankful for the one and only Uncle Toni, who shows his thrifty side in a ’08 US Open jacket.
And then there’s the man in red:
Roger’s played vintage, free-flowing, Super-Fed tennis all week, and whatever happens over the next couple of days, I’m thankful for every moment I get to watch this guy at his best.
Finally, I’m thankful that I still have some pumpkin cheesecake left over. With a mug of coffee, it will make the perfect lazy breakfast while I watch the semis tomorrow morning.
