Rafael Nadal finally dropped his serve at the US Open on Thursday, playing Fernando Verdasco in the quarterfinals. He still hasn’t dropped a set. Rafa will play Mikhail Youznhy next, who suffered through a five setter vs. Stanislas Wawrinka in the other quarter of the day. Given both Rafa’s and Roger Federer’s awesome games this fortnight, many are looking forward to the first ever Nadal vs. Federer final at the Open. Verdasco, himself, is betting on Fedal – though he wouldn’t put his money on Rafa come Sunday.
Verdasco via Reuters:
“If I am not wrong, I think that he will play the final against Roger. It’s going to be a tough match, because I think Roger plays really good in these conditions.
“I think if I need to bet here, I will bet for Roger. I think that he won five times here and he likes these conditions.”
Rafa concurred with Nando’s hunch, saying, “Everybody free to think, and what Fernando says is completely fair. . .For sure Roger is the favorite of the tournament.”
Hmm. . .I wonder what Novak Djokovic is thinking right now? “What am I, chopped liver?”
Youzhny says he wants to play the villain (via ATP):
“I’m happy I won that match and reaching the semi-finals is a good result, but now that I’m here I want more. I’m ready to be the bad person [who prevents Nadal from advancing to a possible final with Federer]. I’d love to be the bad person in this case.”
Personally, I’m kinda missing Andy Murray. He belongs with the other three guys after playing such a strong hard court summer. The drama would have been great.
What do you think?
