Big thanks to Van Sias from Tennis Talk Anyone for his report and photos from yesterday evening’s Maria Sharapova for evian event. Still thirsty? Check out more Van’s work here.

Youth Is Served with Maria Sharapova and Evian

By Van Sias

Hey everyone, it’s GTT NYC correspondent (if that’s what we’re calling me!) Van here, with details on my dip into the fountain of youth with Maria Sharapova yesterday! The superstar played hostess to the media and assorted bloggers in New York City yesterday as part of evian’s “Live Young Month” campaign.

The company showed off its Baby Ts, which if you were photographed in one qualified you for a chance to win tickets to the U.S. Open, a nice prize for embracing your inner baby!

Sharapova arrived on the scene and did an interview with A.J. Calloway of Extra, talking about the campaign and also giving her thoughts on the Open. After taking Calloway to town on the ping-pong table set up at the event, she slipped into a Baby T for more photos from the masses, and then met with us credentialed-types for a roundtable Q-and-A.

She talked about a variety of things: from her favorite part of “embracing her inner baby” being giggling to her mom being her go-to person for advice. Sharapova also gave more details on what she’ll be wearing at this year’s U.S. Open, as well as a favorite sweet treat, red velvet cupcakes.

Being a Brooklyn guy (by way of Alabama), I asked Sharapova if she has a chance to get to the outer boroughs, particularly the best one, BK. She doesn’t make it out this far, but does sample the city while in town.

“I stay around the city, and every time I come in I try to visit a different part of the city and maybe get to know it a little bit more,” she said. “I don’t have as much time as people might think I do, but if there’s a second I maybe go to a restaurant that I like, maybe a shop, try to fit it in.”

“When I was younger, I thought the city was too busy and too hectic for me,” she added. “But over the years, I’ve gotten to love its energy.”

I also asked her about some of her future plans, post-playing-wise. Kind of far down the road, I know, but tennis could still be in the plans, as well as charitable efforts.

“Tennis has obviously been such a big part of my life, and I’d still want to be involved in that.” “I still want to keep doing work with Chernobyl-affected areas, something I started three years ago.”

After a few more exchanges, we were all done, leaving Sharapova to Baby T’s and the crowd gathered to catch a shot of one of the game’s favorites.

Ed note: I still can’t decide if these Ts are funny or super creepy. I’m leaning towards creepy. Though I love the spangly shorts that only Glamazons like Maria can pull off. Check out more of Maria tonight at Nike’s Primetime Knockout event.

OH, and speaking of Glamazons, big thanks to Oliver for passing along these absolutely gorgeous slow-mo videos from the NY Times. Shivers. . .
