*UPDATE* Well, I got the cease and desist via email today, so I had to take the best tennis video ever off GOTOTENNIS. Sorry folks! The legal budget’s a little tight around here. But I’m assuming all you die hard Fedal nerds have watched it at least twenty times by now and can now reenact your favorite moments with your best tennis dork friend. Fritters and I might take our version on the road. . . So let us take the newsy angle, since – copyright issues aside – this was a pretty amazing look at the personalities of two sporting legends!

A look at the greatest video that was – it really did exist!

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were caught on tape, shooting a promo for an upcoming exhibition match the two are playing in Switzerland – likley at the end of this year. It was 14 minutes of pure Fedal hilarity, as both players – okay, mostly Roger – broke down in giggle fits as they rehearsed their lines. Usually Roger could just get out the opener “So Rafa, what are you getting me for Christmas?” before cracking up at Rafa’s answer: “You know whwat?” Rafa brow raised: “I’m gonna come to Switerland and play an exhibition match – ” YAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Repeat, repeat, repeat.

Yep, it existed:

It was great while it lasted – the giggles, the sweat stains, the “puta madre” moment as Rafael Nadal fixed his hair for the camera (Behind the ears or fluffy? It’s obviously a pressing question for him.) After just a few viewings – like 10 or 12 – I agree with you guys that Federer probably said “funny guy” and not “fucking guy.” But I’m still not sure what kind of happy drug Roger’s smoking. “Can you imagine if we made a film together?” YES, Roger, I can. Cheech and Rafa. (I’m also looking into the rare disease called Latin Laughing Fever, since Roger’s already exhibited an intolerance to Spanish accents. (Roger mentions at the beginning how they had to edit that CNN interview down from 20 minutes.)

My favorite line, after Roger doubles over with laughter and Rafa wonders what the hell is going on: “You were perfect Rafa.” Rog says. “It’s me.”

Pure entertainment value aside, we’ve gleaned some valuable information from this fleeting leak. One, the England and Wales Cricket Board wishes Rafa and Roger played cricket. Two, someone involved in this video wanted to share the love with us tennis fans – or else was itching for a pink slip. Or maybe a promotion? Was it a leak or a “leak”? Regardless, we all know now that Roger and Rafa will be playing a exhibition match in Zurich - I’m assuming this December – to support The Roger Federer Foundation. Which is pretty dang cool.

Finally, this video revealed some real, unscripted moments between two sporting legends, two guys who Andy Murray just described last week in Toronto as the greatest rivals tennis will ever know. And now we’ve learned, without a doubt, that Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are also two of the goofiest rivals the sport will ever know. Imagining the tense moments at the net before a big Federer vs. Nadal match – and then looking at the photos above – it’s pretty amazing the natural body chemicals that course through these guys when there’s a tennis match on the line and the happy ones that take over when they’re not on the court.

Sigh. . .so when will the video make it onto the ATP’s video section?
