Gosh, it’s only been a year? Maybe it was all the pre-Baby Fed build up, but I feel like the Federer twins should be in nursery school by now. But let’s not rush things – Myla and Charlene are both one year old today.
The Federer Family update via Roger’s Facebook page;
We are celebrating Charlene Riva and Myla Rose’s first birthday today!
We are currently staying in Switzerland and are having a great time
together. We will be enjoying a birthday party later today which will
certainly be a treat for our two little ones.
We would like to thank all fans and friends for your gifts, cards and
nice words for Charlene and Myla. We are very grateful to receive all
All the best and see you soon
Roger and Mirka
And some Baby Fed digits!
Anyone see a family resemblance?
It’s certainly been quite a wild year for Roger, Mirka, the twins (I’m sure the infants have more stamps in their passports than 99.9% of the world’s population by now) and of course us fans. A quick look back before I run off to my own baby bonanza – my sister-in-law is due any day now!
First there was the “Holy Moses!” announcement that Mirka was pregnant!
“Mirka and I are excited to let you know that we will be parents this summer! Mirka is pregnant and we are so happy to be starting a family together. This is a dream come true for us.”
Then came the inevitable Bodo baby brooding:
The problem, if that the right word, is that even tough guys tend to go a little Jell-O when they’re about to have a kid (in some cases, the spine has been known to grow back shortly after the Missus has her tubes tied), and at some point in a dogfight with a free-ranging stud like Novak Djokovic, or Andy Murray, Federer might look up at the scoreboard, and instead of seeing 6-7, 7-5, 5-5, 30-40 he’ll magically see some variation of the phrase: Who the hail needs this crap, I’m going to be a father!
Roger amuses himself by keeping the news that Mirka is pregnant with twins away from the worry wart press, focusing on winning the French Open and Wimbledon. Mirka, not to be outdone, scores her own Pregnant Spectator Channel Slam:
Then the big day arrives last July 23rd, along with the big surprise – there are TWO OF THEM!:
“This is the greatest day of our lives. Mirka, Myla and Charlene are all healthy and doing very well.”
Bring on the bounteous beautiful baby moments:
Q: Do you remember a particularly beautiful moment with the babies?
FEDERER: Of course there are countless moments. Now is the time when they are constantly doing things for the first time. The first time they really look at you. The first time that they turn from back to tummy. The first laugh. These are very casual moments that you don’t want to miss. They make a lot of fun, I can’t pick just one.
The family portrait:
Roger becomes a Major Daddy in Australia:
Happy Birthday, Myla and Charlene! I’m looking forward to seeing what feats the Mighty Federer Family will accomplish next!
