In case you missed it, Rafael Nadal beat Roger Federer 6-4, 7-6 (5) in Sunday’s Madrid Open final.
Roger’s so funny. “I’m not too disappointed. I’m number one in the world, defending champion at Roland Garros. . .” Okay, then.
Some more from Roger post-match (via BBC):
“The clay court season will not be judged here but in Paris,” (Roger Federer) said.
“We will see what happens in three weeks. I feel I’m ready for Paris. I felt a major improvement in my game compared to last week when I came here from Estoril.
“It’s been a wonderful event for me. I’m sorry I couldn’t defend the title. Rafa’s had an incredible clay season, he was supreme today.”
Rafa’s win in Madrid not only garnered him his 18th Masters shield and a history-making three consecutive Masters titles - he’ll also be back to No. 2 in the rankings on Monday. No wonder he’s feeling good: “3 Masters titles before Roland Garros is amazing! I’m very satisfied with myself.”
A nice highlights video (Fed fans, close your eyes on that last point):
Can we have a rematch soon? How about now? And next week, too?
