The WTA is replacing the ATP tour this week in Rome, and it’s a star-studded field. Serena Williams is playing in her first tournament since the Australian Open. Dinara Safina is playing her second. Venus Williams is in her sister’s half (I’d love to see the two play in the semis – this could be Venus’s chance to make a mini statement before Paris) and World No. 2 Wozniacki anchors the draw. Kuznetsova fans will be disappointed she was upset by glamourpuss Kirilenko on Monday but Ana Ivanovic fans are thrilled that she beat Elena Vesnina without facing a break point. Even with Justine Henin and Kim Clijsters out (get well soon, Kimmie!) it’s going to be an interesting tournament.
Tennis Channel coverage starts with Thursday’s quarterfinals. Click here for live streaming options to catch early rounds (like the intriguing Ivanovic vs. Azarenka second round.)
