The Eagle has landed in the Eternal City! Roger Federer and family are in Rome and ready for the Rome Masters, which starts on Sunday. Roger was in the historic Monti district of Rome on Friday to inaugurate a temporary “pop up” store called the 2Palle@Monti, that sells the Nike Grand Slam Polo that Roger’s wearing in the photos. He’s looking quite the fashion plate.
Thanks to the folks in the rogerfederer.com forum for finding these great photographs!
And now for Roger’s real business in Rome: the draw is filled with intrigue. Roger could meet either Gulbis or Baghdatis (gulp!) in his first match (second round) at the Foro Italico. His reward for getting to the third round could be a date with Sam Querrey. I’m thinking Almagro is the most likely clay court candidate to meet Roger in the quarterfinals, though Ljubicic and Cilic are seeded higher in that section.
The most eye popping part of the draw: Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal in the semifinals! Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 2, and has No. 4 Andy Murray in his half of the draw.
Oh boy. . .
