Juan Martin del Potro is reportedly joining Andy Roddick, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal (likely, but not confirmed) on the Davis Cup sidelines this March. He tweaked the wrist injury that’s been hampering him since October during a practice session on Thursday, and will now miss at least four weeks on tour, the BBC reports. The Argentine is pulling out of Marseille, Dubai and, by most accounts, the Davis Cup first round tie in Sweden starting on March 5th. Like Rafael Nadal, del Potro is targeting Indian Wells for his return.
According to the AP: “Martiniano Orazi, Del Potro’s trainer, said the No. 5-ranked player would need four weeks of rest and four more weeks to get back into playing shape.”
So that puts us at about Monte Carlo before del Po is his old, forehand smashing self. . .assuming he doesn’t injure his wrist again.
