Well, it’s good to be Justine Henin right now. She beat Ana Ivanovic convincingly in Friday’s semifinals at the Brisbane International, winning the match 6-3, 6-2 and bringing her head-to-head to a dominating 5-0 against the Serb. The more things change. . .
Here’s Justine trying to convince reporters that it was a tough fight against Ivanovic (to be fair, Ana was hitting her forehand pretty well at the start of the match):
“It would be a perfect situation if it is a Belgian final.” Henin said afterwards. We all know that Justine is a perfectionist: Kim Clijsters beat Andrea Petkovic 6-4, 6-2 in the other semi and will meet her countrywoman in the Brisbane final on Saturday.
“No one ever expected that this will happen again.” Clijsters said of the dream final.
Henin has a slight 12-10 edge in the head-to-head against Clijsters, with their last three matches going her way. Since then, of course, Kim has gone on to win her second major at the US Open last year. So, who do you think will be victorious this time?
The womens’ Brisbane final will be played on Saturday evening at 7:00 pm, local time (that’s 4:00 am on Saturday morning, East Coast time in the USA.) Ana Ivanovic called the semifinal result “very disappointing” but thinks it will be a “very exciting” and “fun” year on the WTA tour. I agree. Let’s hope she’s a major part of it!
