Yeah, things really will change once the babies start wiggling around.

Roger’s definitely starting to extend his breaks. I think he’s had at least two month+ stretches this season where he hasn’t been playing. I think the timing is good – he has kids so he travels less, in the meantime works on fitness and keeping healthy into his late twenties. Hopefully they’ll figure it out!

It’s all about that hunger, though, and it seems like that can just disappear one day. . . .and then come back like with Justine!

That’s so cool that you saw Mirka and Fed on the streets in NYC. At least you can take comfort in the fact that you didn’t “embarrass him” by observing him, etc. I’m sure he appreciated it

I started watching the Ljuby vs. Stan match, too (great one-handed backhands!) Did Federer come on afterwards? Honestly, I was too tired to finish. I’ll try to catch some of the action this weekend.

And congrats to you and your Yankees! I stopped following baseball after both the SoCal teams were knocked out.

This was a terrific interview. I love how intelligent and level-headed Roger is about his fame — able to balance a personal life with a public life without a lot of strain. I’m sure being married to Mirka helps keep him grounded. Many celebrities complain about their loss of privacy, but Roger appears to accept that it goes with the territory and to accommodate his fans willingly. I also love that he’s such a “domestic” guy, and appreciates his time with his girls.
It’s great that he plans to play for the foreseeable future, although I wonder if he’ll still be as enthusiastic in a couple of years, when he may not be as successful on the court as he is now, and the girls hit the Terrible Twos. That will be the real test….

fantastic, in depth interview. i love reading how well roger and mirka get along and how they are such a fantastic team- when it comes to tennis and in their life together. it sounds like they really love, support and respect one another, which no doubt helps them be super parents too. i think that balance and staying grounded, despite his stature, allows him to still be so successful and helps him enjoy his tennis even more.

it is nice that he tries to accommodate the fans, even though it can be challenging to always be in the spotlight. reading that made me still regret how i once walked by roger and mirka on the street in nyc and did not say hello, on my birthday a few years back, before he became goat! they were alone, strolling in nyc. it would have been the best opportunity to meet him!

am i the only one who didn’t watch his match against seppi? after watching the yanks win the world series (yay!) i watched my recorded basel coverage, only to see stan and ljubi 2x! i like those guys, but roger is the priority! what the hell?!

I’m laughing at Roger’s assertion that if there hadn’t been any tickets available for the Basel match, that he and his friends would have missed it. Sure, he says, that’s Switzerland for you. But *HE* is Roger Federer, golden boy and Swiss national hero. There will ALWAYS be tickets for him.
