
Ah, the calendar is working against us, Safin fans! Marat’s last tournament (Bercy) is just a little over a month away. In the meantime, he’s playing singles and doubles (with Gilles Simon) this week at the Thailand Open and will be continuing the Asian swing in China, with wildcards into both the China Open in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters.
China Daily reports that farewell parties are planned for Marat Safin in both cities. Love this quote from the China Open’s tournament director, Zhang Junhui: “We are very willing to give him a happy memory.” Hey, I already signed up for that job!
Marat/Simon beat Coetzee/DeVoest in their first round doubles match. Marat plays Philipp Petzschner today in singles.
