It's funny because I was a hardcore Pete fan as a kid and now I'm a Roger fan. I guess I like GOATs. Pete acknowledged that this year's Wimbledon was "bittersweet" for him but he's been more sweet than sour - so gracious and generous with his praise and support of Roger. I'm sure Roger will behave similarly when it's his turn to cheer on his successor from the royal box. (Hope his stretch lasts longer than 8 years, though!) Hi lk28! He was too contained emotionally for me, too private. I guess I'm just drawn to players who cry more. ;-) I like Pete more now -- for coming to Wimbledon to see his record broken, for still wanting badly to win against Safin, and for appreciating his current life. I hope that someday, when Roger's record is broken (as it probably will be), he will show up and be as gracious as Pete was at Wimbledon. I admired Pete when he was playing, but didn’t love him. Glad you all liked the story. I was surprised how good the exhibition match was. I usually hate exo, but these guys really played. And I'd been a huge Sampras fan as a kid, but have since forgotten how great his game really was/is. So it was really cool to see him play against a quality player.
