Marat Safin seems serious about retirement. After losing to 133-ranked Jesse Levine in the first round of Wimbledon, being upset by Israeli underdogs in Davis Cup last weekend, and now losing to Nicolas Almagro in the first round of this week’s Swedish Open, it sounds like Marat is about as motivated as a pig in poop. But not nearly as happy.
From Reuters
“I’m tired of the tour, tired of staying at hotels and tired of traveling. . .I’ve had enough now,” the Russian said after having lost the second set tie-break 8-6 on the Swedish clay.
Asked by the Swedish news agency TT if he would be interested in a coaching career, Safin replied: “I am tired of everything that has to do with rackets and balls. I want to do something completely different.”
Yeah, like filling in for James Bond! Or staring in your own after-hours reality show, Smashin’ Safin! Or becoming a masseuse at my local spa! I’m a good tipper, Marat!
