Helen Jacobs had a brilliant Big Babe Game (and a superb record) but a girl with a great serve, a slice backhand and a volley could still win. Touch, slice, volley, a tremendous serve and a net game. I'm not thaaaaaaat old, but I miss that game.
I'd watch the other network.

Boring tennis historian here, just off reading Alice Marble’s “Courting Danger.” There was Big Babe tennis back in the 30s and 40s, but the racquets were still humble woodies. It's too bad, though, because I do feel like there are some women on tour with amazing, highly entertaining games who just can't stand up to the power of Big Babe tennis.
That's why I liked Justine Henin so much (despite her sometimes off-putting demeanor on court) - she'd found a way to merge power and finesse.
My hope is that the women's game is still evolving and we will see more Henins soon.
I'm glad to see Carla Suarez Navarro still in the mix. . .
I'll sign that petition!

Ha! Sara, I’m the same (slightly douchey) way. I'll get started on the petition.

I would totally watch the “I play tennis instead of just hitting as hard as I can” women’s tennis tour (I’m old school to the point of occasionally being douchey.)
