Hi Eddy!

I think your comments are really insightful – I definitely think there’s a difference in how Roger and Rafa compete (and handle victory and defeat.) There’s no doubt that Rafa’s a fierce competitor and a player with a ton of desire – but he seems to leave a lot of that hunger on the tennis court. Chasing history doesn’t seem as important to him as beating whoever’s on the other side of the net on any given day. Maybe it’s because Rafa’s still young, with (hopefully) many years left to worry about the history books – and a lot of his perspective was shaped by the fact that he was at No. 2 for something like 3 or 4 years while Roger was on top.

Maybe Roger cares more about his own game – and the sport of tennis – than the competition. Of course he likes to win, but it’s more about playing his brand of perfect tennis than it is about walloping the other guy. Which is why his win at the French Open (and a bit at last years US Open) was so unique – clawing and scrapping his way through. Anyways, I’m rambling here, but it’s such an interesting point you made that my brain is working overtime.

Let’s hope Rafa’s ready to go by the US Open. Tennis has had so many crazy twists and turns lately – so why couldn’t both Roger and Rafa finish their career slams in the same year?

Just been watching last year’s wimbledon final. Makes me understand why Federer has achieved so much. He is soo hungry for victory, to some extent VERY greedy. Looking at his loses to Rafa from last year’s French Open to this year’s Aussie Open, you get the feeling Federer has the mentality that he owns the game of tennis and anything short of a trophy is a big down fall. Rafa seems to take his loses better than Federer does. When he lost the Aussie Open it was like………”OMG ! the whole tennis kingdom has collapsed. Roger really pushes himself so much. I bet you Rafa won’t even care less losing the no.1 ranking than Federer did.I won’t be surprised if he weeps like my 2 yr old when Rafa takes the US Open this year…

Yeaaaaaaa we Rafa fans have been left with nothing but hope that he completes a career grand slam. I look fwd to Wimby come monday.

Yes, the screen capture is our sobriety test here at GTT (actually, we encourage drunk typing!) Ketchup razorback – awesome.

Mary Carillo said that she thinks the US Open will be as hard for Rafa to win as the French was for Roger – but that he will eventually do it. I wonder. . .

as much as i want it to happen i dont think nadal can reach far in the us open, its too fast for his game, he likes to keep the points long but in the us open you have to keep them short,then again I could be wrong..only time can tell… but he has had a great year and im sure he can do well in french open, wimby and Australian open next year

BTW whats a screen capture? is it the thing you have to type in to check if your drunk? if it is mine says ketchup razorback

Hi Edy! I miss Rafa already. . .it just stinks.

I see no reason why he couldn’t come back, fresh and motivated, and win the US Open. Then both he and Roger would finish their career slam in the same year. That would be pretty cool!

It can’t get any worse for us Rafa fans. Hope he comes back and wins the US Open, now that would be a great consolation. On a brighter side, we can all enjoy wimby without the blood pressure that comes with watching Rafa. It would be interesting to see if Federer can win this one.

omg no way! nadal is out!.. im a fed fan but i still feel sad.. two grand slams without nadal.. seems a little empty..but on the bright side.. fed for the win and no 1 spot!
