I can understand many things I see on Deutsche Welle, specially news shows. I have taken German lessons when I was a kid and, even though I forgot a lot, I can still understand about 40-50% of what's being said on German TV shows. But Roger's interviews for Swiss TV shows?
Not.
A.
Word.
His French, on the other hand, is very easy.
And I sooo wish they had asked the "Boxers of briefs?" question. **naughty**

It’s Roger’s Swiss German that gives me a headache. 3: Have you ever thought of money during a match?
Once. In Shanghai, in the first Masters when I had qualified before the last group game for the semi finals. The win against Johansson was no longer important, but there was 150,000 francs for the victory! I thought almost in every rally: 150,000 francs! 150,000 francs! What can I buy? Everything! It was hell to think of the money in every shot. . .
Definitely appreciate the honesty!
and yes #12 is ridiculously sweet. <3

fab interview. Roger sounds like one cool cat.

3: Have you ever thought of money during a match?<br

I understand your regrets about language learning - I wish I knew French (at least better than I do now - I studied it in school but have forgotten so much of it just in a few years) along with German, Spanish (and sometimes Russian and Serbian) just so I could expertly translate all the tennis articles! They say you need to learn these languages to study opera or art history - but language skills are even more useful for tennis fans!
John McEnroe mentioned at the French that he was glad to see Federer using the inside out backhand return (doubles style return) more. I started watching for it, and Roger did have success when he employed that shot. Not sure if it will translate to grass, but it was good to Roger trying out something different.
Thanks for sending along the interview! It's always fun to watch Roger smile. . .

Hi WhyNotMe! 42. My weakest stroke is:
The backhand return.
So true ! That's what nearly costed him the semi final against Del Potro ! He kept using the sliced backhand, even on 2nd serves. So the ball was landing around the service line and Del Potro just needed to hit a huuuge forehand and the point was over. Painful to watch. Hopefully he started to use the blocked/hit (don't know the exact term in English) backhand return during the 3rd set (and Del Potro started to serve less powerfully) and I think that's what saved him in the end.
Anyway, I sometimes wish I had chosen German instead of Spanish at school ! But I didn't know back then that I would become a Fed fan and not a Rafan... Actually I wasn't even a tennis fan :P
Speaking of German, here's another great interview he gave to a swiss tv channel. It's actually a entire show and lasts about 35 minutes ! But I don't understand a word of it... I watched it entirely just to see Roger smile and being adorable, but God German gives me a headache ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHtH2zwygCs

OMG after reading some excerpts in French-speaking media, I was hoping someone would translate the whole interview and here it is !
