Maybe it was a combination of his back problems and tough loss to Nadal. But in Rome I think he looked diffrent and fresh and he played really well the hole tournament until that very bad timed rain delay.
But can he poll him self all the way up this mental slump by him self, or shouldn´t he still consider outside help?

Yes the fact that his mood has changed is very important, because after AO he looked so tired and almost a little sad. In Rome, he could focus on tennis, and his game looked much improved. Against Djokovic, IMHO, he was undone by a case of nerves, and his game came apart. Federer has always been subject to nerves in big matches (just look at old videos), but he used to be able to master them. Now, he's more fragile. But, he's still in great shape; he still has a wonderful game; he's still fast. If he can get his mind together, he can still beat anyone, Nadal included. I don't think he's on his way into any harbors or down any slippery slopes. So, freakyfrites, I agree with you that the issue is mental. And, once he's mentally strong again, he'll be back.

I think the baby news and the wedding was more distracting to Federer than he let on (or maybe even knew). Very interesting to hear that Roger's mood has changed for the better - it's SOOOO important, as I feel most of his problems have been mental.

Yes, Mark! I don't think it will be a real rivalry unless Federer can start to beat Nadal at Grand Slams. Which I hope does happen.

Peter Bodo always writes such great articles. I think it was a rivalry until last year, now there are too many other guys in the mix.

Hey Freakyfrites! I thought through out the tournament that Roger´s game was way better than in Monte carlo and almost with a "fresher" spirit and that is exatly what he needs, the joy back in his game. And I have said it too my friends, who by the way laughs at me when I say it, but I think were in for a surprise in Madrid or Roland Garros, and the state from Bodo that a talent like Roger is set to rise again only makes my believe stronger.

It´s interesting Bodo say´s that even though Roger lost in Rome he was in playful mood after the match.
