ESPN2 will be broadcasting LIVE this week from the Family Circle Cup, a WTA Premier level tournament in Charleston, South Carolina
Elena Dementieva is the top seed, due to Serena Williams’s injury withdrawal, and Venus Williams heads up the other side of the draw. Top players Svetlana Kuznetsova, Dinara Safina, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic are not playing in Charleston or in the smaller Barcelona event this week, so they can rest up for their upcoming Fed Cup Semis starting on April 25. Victoria Azarenka withdrew with a shoulder injury.
If the seeds hold, we’re looking at the following quarterfinal matchups: Dementieva vs. Cibulkova, Zvonareva vs. Wozniacki, Bartoli vs. Petrova and Schnyder vs. Venus. Also look out for Peng Shuai (in Wozniacki’s section), Aleksandra Wozniack (in Bartoli’s section) and Sania Mirza, who plays Venus in a good second rounder.
