GOTOTENNIS - Tennis blog. Tennis news. Tennis gossip.

It’s a ROGER BOMB! He may not be playing much tennis, but Roger Federer is keeping busy off court, recently filming a series of ads for the life insurance company Nationale Suisse. It’s always fun to see Roger in his dress up clothes (the guy’s like a human Ken doll!) so please, enjoy! And if you know German, please, translate!

The thrust of the campaign, as I understand it, is that Roger Federer a.k.a. “Mr. Perfect” helps make things right for people in various sticky situations by being his super-perfect self. The overall gist is that Roger enjoys a safe, risk-free life, which others can emulate by purchasing a Nationale Suisse policy. Makes sense, right? I leave it up to you to make any parallels between these scenarios and Roger’s precautionary (non)injury withdrawals from Dubai and Davis Cup.

Here’s an interview with Federer on the making of the campaign where Roger talks about his “safe” approach to life. Apparently, driving fast cars is his only vice and skydiving is the thing that terrifies him the most. (Insert snarky Nadal reference here.)

Here’s a cute one of Roger playing rather intently with the young star of one of the ads. Don’t mess with Roger’s LEGOs, kid!

This one stars Roger at a ribbon cutting ceremony. The other guy is a real-life architect who won the chance to appear with Roger in a national competition. He seems to hold his own. There’s something about shoes going on here that I’m just not getting.

And this one is for the ladies! Another real-life actor, this time a Basel businesswoman, gets to wear a pair of “f*ck me” pumps and beam up at Roger from the seat of her Mercedes in what is romantically called the “Gallant Volunteer” spot (Roger would be the gallant one, obviously). I have a feeling that this type of Mercedes-Benz-meets-designer-suit scenario happens daily on Switzerland’s upscale streets. Perhaps Roger’s gallantly volunteering to tell her the time with a glance at his new Rolex watch?

Honestly, if I had to stare loving at Roger for that long, especially with him looking so dapper, I’d probably faint. Or go blind, as if staring into the sun. I can tell this lady is barely keeping her sh*t together – probably because her husband’s lurking nearby – great job, lady!
