The WTA tour has two tournaments on this week, a big one in Paris and a lesser one in Pattaya, Thailand. Here’s everything you need to know going into the weekend:
OPEN GDF SUEZ: Paris France/Premier level/Indoor Hard Court
Storyline(s): The French are representing, with Loit, Dechy, Mauresmo and Cornet all making it to the quarters (what happened last week, ladies?)
Still in it to win it*: All those French women plus top seeds Serena, Dementieva, Jankovic and Radwanska
Hot matches: The Cornet vs. Jankovic quarter final, a possible Dementiva vs. Williams semi and Jankovic vs. either the Russian or the American in the final. Or look out for one of the Frenchwoman to pull an upset with the help of their home crowd!
I’m betting: Williams/I’m hoping: Mauresmo
PTT PATTAYA OPEN: Pattaya, Thailand/ International level/Outdoor Hard Court
Storyline(s): Uh, I’d like to be basking on the beach sipping out of a coconut right now. . .does that count?
Still in it to win it*: A motley crew including top seed Vera Zvonareva, Shuai Peng, Vera Dushevina, Shahar Peer (top half) and Thai-hope Tamarine Tanasugarn, Sania Mirza, Magdalena Rybarikova, and second seed Caroline Wozniacki (bottom half)
Hot matches: I’d take a break from snorkeling to catch Mirza vs. Tanasugarn in the quarterfinals. And a Zvonareva vs. Wozniacki final will probably go three sets.
I’m betting: Wozniacki/I’m hoping: Tanasugarn
How to watch: I’m sorry hard core fans, I haven’t found a reliable link. Any recommendations?
