Okay, I have to go to bed. It’s 2:00 am in the morning and I’m actually playing tennis tomorrow morning. Rafael Nadal just won the first set in the Aussie Open Final against my man Roger Federer. I’m pretty sure the Spaniard will win the match. Why? Because Roger plays like a zombie against Rafa. He just looks different. You can see it in his eyes. My husband actually asked “is this rigged?” Roger looks that complacent – that different from his normal self. In the first set I watched him miss shots that he could normally make in his sleep. Forget fixing the backhand, Roger really, truly needs a psychiatrist to get past this guy. Or maybe that would be a coach.
Rafa is a fantastic player. There is no doubt that he earns everything that he achieves on the court. And he deserves this win not only because he plays death-defying, physical tennis but because he’s dug himself like a flesh eating worm inside the psyche of Roger Federer.
Perhaps I’ll wake up to a bunch of emails telling me I’m a loser to give up so easily on my guy. But I doubt it. Maybe Roger and I should go in together – group therapy!
