If tennis figures into your Halloween night plans, be sure to tune into the first set of Murray vs. Nalbandian at the Paris Masters. Talk about tricks and treats – there are drop shots, running forehand rippers, and even a slice winner or two down the line. I realized while watching that Nalbandian and Murray play very similar games, but with very different styles. Both are sneaky movers, both have uncanny service returns, both love constructing points with unexpected changes of pace and forays at net and both like nothing better than playing cat to their opponent’s mouse. But on the surface, they look so different that it’s hard to see that they’re opposing sides of the same magic coin: Nalbandian is a compact, bludgeoning monster, while Murray is a lanky, levitating phantom.
It’s scary good stuff!
