I’m just dropping a quick note to state the obvious: I haven’t been posting lately. The off season’s come early for me, I guess, with a bunch of non-tennis “distractions” (i.e. gainful employment) taking over and taking my attention off of the comings and goings of all our favorite stars (or maybe I’m just taking my cues from the vacillating Roger Federer).
Let me say, that if I’d just come to the sport, I’d have to assume that Svetlana Kuznetsova was a major hottie! Not that I don’t admire Sveta’s general disinterest in hair and makeup, but I do love that she’s willing to mix things up a bit every now and then! Keep ‘em guessing, Kuzy!
And what about this Jelena Jankovic - winning 3 tournaments in a row seems to be the act of a legitimate Number One, don’t you think? I’m curious – does anyone believe that she’ll really win a major some day? I think her window’s narrowing, but she still has a chance next year. So I’m gonna say YES!
That’s about all I got folks, except for some shout outs to David Nalbandian and the retiring Jonas Bjorkman for their championship runs in Stockholm this week (Jonas won with partner Kevin Ullyett), and a “BOO!” to Marat Safin, for losing to his Countrywide Classic doubles partner, Igor Kunitsyn, in the Moscow final. Ridiculous.
This week could be a good one for us wayward tennis fans, with many of the top players showing up in Madrid (the guys) and Zurich (the girls). We could even get a little Rafa vs. Roger action on the weekend, if things work out. And the kicker? It will be televised! The Madrid Masters is going live on Tennis Channel starting tomorrow (Monday) morning, and the ladies will show up from Zurich on the weekend.
