SUPER SERENA WILLIAMS AND THE U.S. OPEN FINAL
Serena’s next Nike dress should have a big S on the front to stand for Spectacular, Super, and Seriously badasssss.

But here’s the funny thing – Serena played so well that I didn’t watch her! Maybe it was the bright yellow outfit and the caked-on body glitter, but I just couldn’t take my eyes off of Jelena. Watching Jankovic scamper along the baseline, stretching to get to balls that were flying past her at supersonic speeds (there are those Ses again!), I found myself mesmerized by her fight against the inevitable and awed by her willingness to counterpunch herself into oblivion while still being the star of her own show. (Sometimes it was more Big Brother than West Wing, but entertaining nonetheless.)

In the end, it all worked out for the best. Serena earned the trophy and the No. 1 next to her name (much to the delight of WTA execs, I’m sure) and Jelena proved to everyone that she’s more than a workhorse in lip gloss. The two played a match worthy of the U.S. Open final and a battle for the top ranking. The result was never in doubt, but it was still a fantastic, highly entertaining match – splendid, stylish and scintillating, too!
