We’re here! Sighted so far: safina, nalbandian, wawrinka, and
kuzenetsova all hitting the practice courts at the same time. Tommy
Haas getting the trainer on his way to a 5th set against Gilles
Muller. And now we’re set up at the grandstand court (my fave)
watching what looks to be a great match – Ginepri vs. young gun Marin
Cilic. Ginepri has tons of support, buy Cilic has the early break.
Never seen Cilic play live – he can! I’m not sure if Robbie has his
coach, as Federer is playing in Ashe right now.
Coming up in this intimate stadium Tsonga v. Moya – how cool is that?
Also looking forward to watching Jelena flirt outrageously with
Fernando Verdasco during their mixed doubles match! Boy, does she have
good taste in partners (and vice versa, of course.)
I’ll try to post more photos and news tonight. Hope everyone is
enjoying the tennis!
**UPDATES: Ginepri lost to Cilic in four – losing a 5-2 lead in the final set. Jose Higueras was there, whether because Roger was doing okay on Ashe or because I didn’t notice him at first, I’m not sure. Fernando Verdasco was tied up with a five setter all day today – finally beating Portuguese qualifier Rui Machado after day turned to night and sun turned to rain. Perhaps that’s why there is no trace of him and Jelena ever participating in the mixed doubles draw? Am I going crazy, or what? Too bad, if this photogenic duo did indeed pull out. But no surprise, considering they’re both suspect, physically.
Tommy Haas lost to Gille Muller in five sets – the trainer he called out to court couldn’t help him, I guess. The trainers were plenty busy today – I saw them working on Alvas and Cilic, too.
