You may have missed this unless you were watching Wimbledon coverage on the BBC: Roger and Rafa reading aloud potions of Rudyard Kipling’s poem “If” for the network’s pre-final promo. The poem has become a little cliched over the years, but these two jocks manage to de-schmaltzify it – really! Rafa’s phrasing is excellent and Roger seems to be taking the poem’s meaning to heart as he reads. Could this be the way to get kids interested in poetry (or tennis players back in school)?
I found this clip on Tennis Grandstand.
