It appears that Murray mania got bashed in today by Rafa “Wrecking Ball” Nadal, who posted a scary straight-sets win over the Scot.
I used the passive “it appears” because I didn’t actually see any of the match. It wasn’t broadcast here in Los Angeles. Intsead, I got to watch rain delays during Roger-Mario on NBC (rain delays on taped coverage!), then hours of ESPN sports news/tennis blackout (it said Wimbledon on my TIVO!) followed by the last set of the already-broadcast Ancic v. Federer match (why, ESPN why!?).
I’m sick of trying to understand this madness, and have come to the following conclusion:
MAJOR NETWORKS RUIN TENNIS!
I’d volunteer to start a letter writing campaign, but I don’t even know where to begin: the taped matches, the time-zone descrimination, the lack of continuity between the various broadcasters? All I want is for ESPN to show the Majors in HD from start to finish. If this happens, I promise not to complain about Chris Fowler or the one-line scoreboard anymore.
