She deserved it! Ana fought for the title and ended up winning convincingly, a satisfying outcome for the brand new No. 1 player in the world. She’s in the big leagues now, proving herself to be a worthy “tri”val to Maria and Serena. I can’t wait to see who’ll be last one standing at the US Open. Dinara also played well today, considering the occasion, and I have no doubt she’ll be contending for another major, soon.
How cute was Ana’s little brother, who was near tears during the trophy presentation? It was really disappointing that Marat didn’t come to cheer on his own sister. Who cares if he’d get too nervous? It’s about Dinara, not him. Oh well, maybe next time.
What about Justine Henin, wearing that bright pink jacket in the front row of the stadium and then handing out the trophies like she’s Billie Jean King? I thought it was strange, and way too soon. John McEnroe was right, the winner of today’s match should still have to play Justine for the title. Oh well, perhaps this will make Justine yearn for one more?
Side note: Did Dinara read my “Ana”nnoying post? What was up with her dissing Ana’s team? I guess the poor girl doesn’t know how to edit herself yet.
