I heard it here first: frequent commenter GoMaria couldn’t believe that FSN pulled away from the Fed-Roddick match to show sport fishing, and we wondered if it was just a regional (southwestern) thang. This interesting story from tennis-x.com reports that FSN had the audacity to pull the same stunt in the FLORIDA market. They were supposed to show a Marlins game (like we care) – but they ended up showing sports bloopers and, yes, fishing, because of a rain delay.

My only hope is that this fiasco convinces the ATP to find another broadcaster as soon as possible. There’s gotta be some clause in FSN’s contract about this kind of thing, right?
On a different note, why ARE sport fishing shows the official “filler” of cable sports networks? Are there really legions of fishermen sitting around late at night, bemoaning the sport of tennis for cutting into their favorite programming? Why not show ping pong, rhythmic gymnastics or frigging wind surfing instead? If anyone out there is a combo tennis/sports fishing program fan, please clue me in.
