I’m totally peeved at Patrick McEnroe. All he talks about is how great Rafa is and how “most of us experts think he’s getting closer to Roger.” And Ted (who has this smug “I’m an expert, too” thing going) keeps prattling on about how Rafa had to play “SEVEN DAYS IN A ROW!!!” at Wimbledon (every sentence the guy utters seems to end in a series of exclamation points.) I’m sorry, but I believe Roger WON the tournament, showing grit, heart and awesome talent, so just shut up about Rafa having to deal with some frigging rain delays. Oh, and then Patrick casually mentions that he thinks “Rafa outplayed Roger” for the first four sets of the Wimby final (oh, so this is why Roger won 2 out of those 4 of sets?) It’s one thing to compliment Rafa, who is obviously awesome, but it’s like whenever they say “Rafa’s great” they have to give Rog a little dig. It’s just lazy commentating.
Speaking of annoying t.v. commentators and Wimbledon, while I was watching the Nadal-Safin match tonight I was reminded of that awful British journalist who enjoyed slagging off Tim Henman on ESPN. She said that the most pathetic sound in the world was British fans cheering “Go Tim!” from the stands. Wrong. It’s the sound of any sad sack actually putting forth the effort to say “Go, Marat!”
Marat, perhaps it’s time to face facts and retire (I suspect you already know this deep down in your gloomy Russian soul.) Just please, please be the next bachelor on Age of Love. Now THAT would be scintillating television.
